Since few people use the word "pate" anymore, we should just call this nifty little package what it is: sausage spread. We spent one night in Montreal and found the "Pork Cretons" on the buffet breakfast at the Le Square Phillips Hotel & Suites (genteel, if not modern). Pork Cretons are apparently unique to French-Canadian Quebec, intended for spreading on toast. It tasted like sausage butter. I thought it a genius and budget-friendly way to bring meat into a meal. I plan to add this to my next continental breakfast buffet (with a note, of course, to guide the uninitiated).
